Imagine waking up one morning and realizing that you are a billionaire with a billion-dollar company, million-dollar mansion, different colored Rolls Royce cars to choose from and a private Gulfstream g650. Wouldn't that be amazing? Imagine how proud you'd feel about all these achievements and how astounding it would be to have a become a self-made billionaire that everyone looks up to. This is an exact representation of how I want my life to be like and I would want nothing more than to be at that level and share my success story with the rest of the world. But unfortunately, it's quite hard to become a billionaire and it's not something that can happen overnight. However, developing a billionaire mentality and lifestyle can give you a jumpstart on the path that you have decided to take. To truly become a billionaire one must first start to portray certain qualities and be consistent even when all things seem inconsistent. The environment around you is always subject to change, but a successful person is the one who stands firm to his or her values.

In this blog, I have discussed some of the values that many billionaires tend to follow and having that lifestyle can definitely improve your life as a whole. Without further ado let's jump straight into a few of the habits that billionaires have which can make you become like them.

1. The Rich vs Poor Mindset

Most people don't notice this, but there is a big difference between the children of the poor and rich. The obvious factor is the fact that the rich have more money so they present their kids with larger opportunities and the poor are forced to give their children comparatively fewer opportunities. You would probably think that finance is the biggest factor that influences this but it's actually something different. It is the mentality that the people pass on to their kids that keep most of them away from success. They pass on a mindset of working to obtain money and not working for the interest or passion.  Many people study so well and get into big companies with the only idea of making money. They get stuck in certain areas and feel pressure and stress which eventually breaks them down because they worked with the mindset of money as the goal.

The mindset of a billionaire is one that does not chase after money. Money is just paper, it should not be the sole purpose for your passion to start something. It is just a side reward for your work but your work should become your first love. Whoever you want to become, don't become that person for the reason of attaining money. Become that doctor, engineer, social worker or anyone because you love it and you want to make a difference in that field from everyone else in there.

Don't be a slave to money, make money run after you.

2. Have a long term goal

The life of a successful person is one that is filled with goals and certain targets. Many people have different types of goals. For some finding true love and raising a family is a goal, for some becoming a champion of a sport and for many just getting a job is a goal. No matter who you want to be it is crucial for everyone to have long term goals. Goals help us wake up in the morning and have a reason to start working. Long term goals act as the motivation that drives us towards climbing the ladder to success.

Everybody has goals and dreams in their mind but it is only some that truly make it. The ones who make it to the other side plan out each day based on their long term goal. They use the 24 hours that are given to them in the most productive way possible. They do not wait for the perfect time to arise but use every small chance amidst their busy schedule to hit their target. They know that every decision made in that 24-hour time slot will affect their end goal and how fast they get there.

Therefore set big goals in your mind. Have a vision for who you want to be and be very specific. Don't just have a vision that says you want to be a billionaire. Have a vision that is specific about what type of billionaire you want to be. A billionaire owning an IT company or a billionaire doctor who owns many hospitals to help the sick, etc. Be very specific and make sure that you plan every single step towards your goal. It is always important to plan ahead because in case something goes wrong in the process you can always re-edit the process and keep working harder.

3. Organize your day

In the previous tip, we talked about organizing each and every day so that you get closer to your goals. In this tip, we will discuss how to organize your day and some secrets that I personally use to monitor my progress towards my dreams and goals.

Before you organize your day make sure that you organize yourself. Segregate and organize all of your belongings and the environment in which you do each task. For example, make sure that your bed is always made first thing in the morning before you do any task. This habit allows you to keep yourself organized and disciplined. It is also very important to segregate workspace and study space. Make sure the environment that you study in and work in are different. You get the best out of both if your brain and surrounding are all focused on one thing.

Sign up with Google Calendar and once a week schedule all the big events coming up or the assignments that are due in that week. This helps you in planning the tasks for the day. Make sure that the first thing you do in the morning is to write down the tasks for that day in relation to the events that are coming up on the calendar. I prefer to use Google Tasks as it is very efficient and it reminds you through notifications when a task is due.

Remember to have your weekdays scheduled out clearly so that you know when and what you have to do. It is better to have it planned out early than to suddenly remember it last minute and rush. Also remember, sometimes you cannot complete all that you've planned and that is alright but make sure you find a way to get around the obstacles that try to mess with your schedule. Reward yourself once in three weeks if you followed your schedule and tasks properly.

Here is my personal schedule, you can use it as an example to make your own. [Download schedule]

4. Have budgets

As a student or even as an adult it is very useful to have a budget in mind. Overspending at times can be harmful and a budget not only helps you have enough money for emergencies but also helps you discipline yourself. Budgets organize what you really need and what you don't. There is a big difference between "want" and "need" and a budget mainly focuses on helping you get what you need. Saving money through a budget can always be useful for your future investments.

It is important that you organize the money and set a limit to how much you spend over certain things. For example, implementing a budget would stop you from getting McDonald's when there is free cafeteria food at your university. It does require a bit of sacrifice and discipline which you will have to learn over time. The best way to start is by making a monthly budget. Set a certain amount of money that you can spend on things like food, clothes, business or medical. Try your best to be under the budget that you created and save the excess money for future investments. For example, you can set a monthly budget for food at $200 from your total savings.

There is also another budget implementation that I like to use which helps you save money for future investments, paying rent or even college fees. I set a percentage on the money that I earn monthly and set a certain amount to savings and a certain amount for personal use. I like to use 80% to 20% rule. You can come up with something that best suits you. For example, if I get 2000 dollars in one month I save $1,600 (80%) for future investments and $400 for my personal use. With the money that I earn, it is sufficient for me, however, you can change your percentage based on how much you earn and the responsibilities that are entrusted upon you.

5. Program your mind

A human's brain is like a double-edged sword.  It can be one's most powerful weapon and at the same time, it can be the biggest enemy that prevents you from getting where you want to be. For example, fear, anxiety and all those stressful feelings are created because your mind thinks way too much about a simple task. Your brain has the ability to make a simple task way more complicated than it has to be and that is because you allow it to do so. You must be able to train your brain in the correct way so that you can take advantage of it. For example, if you are sitting down to study, research says that you can study way better if you are dressed appropriately for the occasion. If you are dressed in your pajamas and you try to get something done there is a high chance that you will either fall asleep, get tired or do a sloppy job.

Dress in a way that makes you feel confident and ready. Wearing clothes that are semi-formal or even formal is said to increase your brain activity and motivation as it is a type of clothing that is associated with the working environment. According to a post by Carolyn Gregorie in Huffpost.com, the University of Columbia did research and found out that formal clothing on a daily basis increases cognitive processing.

So if you'd like your brain to be ready and serve as a weapon rather than your enemy, then start helping it out by dressing professionally.

6. Be self-employed

Being self-employed is a freedom that you can't find in any other job. If you work under people you are always forced to follow their rules, meet their needs and work to make their operation better. Sometimes it is good to be selfish in terms of your career and you should set up a way in which you make money for yourself and not for someone else. What you do with that money is a different topic, but earning money from something that you created has its own reward. This doesn't mean that you have to give up whatever you are doing, however, you should start something on the side that brings you money.

Be creative, don't be trying to make someone else's company bigger while you can be making your own today. It is definitely a high-risk career path but what is a life without challenges. To become a billionaire, one should be able to smile and stay positive even amidst situations where there is no hope. It is smart to obtain money from your main job and invest it for your own startup which will take a few years of hard work and dedication. This world is very unreliable and you don't know what's going to happen next so before something life-changing happens, be ready to stand firm on your own creation. Be creative, make something of your own instead of working day and night for someone else's creation.

7. Sacrifice

This is one of the most essential things that is required in the process of becoming a billionaire and it is also something that many people reject. Being able to sacrifice something that is hindering your success is the quickest way to see the results that you've worked so hard for. But if you are not willing to let go of those small things that destroy all your work then you don't want it bad enough. You always have to remember that whenever you decide to not get out of bed to do the extra work, do a sloppy job on the research paper or rush something without patience, you are building more distance from the place you want to be in. As you build more distance by doing the easy things, there is someone taking over your dreams by doing the hard things that you missed out. Don't ever end up in a situation where you have to see someone live the life that you knew you could get or even worse work under someone who is living your dream. This might seem quite foolish but a lot of people fail to achieve their dreams because they don't get out of bed. That laziness cripples them forever and keeps them at the same level until the very end.

It is very important to distinguish between what is important and what is not. For example, if your best friend is constantly taking you to parties instead of letting you study, he or she is not a best friend in fact that is the worst friend you could have. Surround yourself with friends who take life seriously, who know when to have fun and when to work. It is better to sacrifice the popularity in college than to live a life where someone else is living your dream.

The creator has done his work by giving you all the things you need and in fact, has put that dream in your head as well. It is your responsibility to take advantage of the opportunities that you have and build your life with confidence. Billionaires have one thing that many people lack and that is the ability to make quick decisions on the things they need to sacrifice. If something is slowing their progress they don't think twice, they throw it away immediately.

Be smart and make the right decisions in life. All of you reading this will definitely become successful in the future because you had the urge to know and obtain knowledge. This urge will take you great places in life and remember true billionaires are the ones like you, who start from the very beginning and are willing to accept change in their life. All the best to the future billionaires of this world.
